SilkFred chats to new designer on the block Dominique Kral who has just launched her new collection and is causing a stir in the fashion world with her abstract prints and fashion forward shapes…
What inspires you the most day to day?
So much inspires me, i think nature is probably my biggest inspiration, everything from flowers to insects to the sky and so much more
If you could collaborate with any designer who would it be and why?
I would love to collaborate with Madham Kirchhoff, they have the most amazing style and their collections are outrageous. I think there is possibly a little outrageousness in me which I’m a little scared to let out and i think collaboration with such inspirational designers would push that.
Which part of the design process do you enjoy the most?
The experimenting part, putting together different fabrics and textures, playing around with print and creating different knits
What is your one key piece for this coming summer?
Summer seems yet to drive so I’m still in my wooly jumpers and chunky cardigans at the moment but I have made myself a pair of trousers from my s/s12 collection in white/pink/orange print which I think might get a lot of wear when the sun finally graces us with its presence.
Having established your own label, do you have any advice for up and coming business entrepreneurs?
Don’t give up, its hard work but when you put the effort in and can see the results it definitely worth it.
Which is your favourite secret getaway in London?
I’m am a Brighton girl so trips to London are only day trips which means I don’t get to really find any fab secret little getaways. In Brighton though I do love to go to a little bar in the south lanes which is away from where all the main clubs are so you don’t really get the crowds coming into Brighton for going out going in there. They do amazing cocktails and have good music, often live bands like the swing ninjas who are amazing!
